Best Feature: very refreshing

Rescousse Red Wheat Ale is a beer produced by RJ Breweries in Quebec with the proceeds of the sales going to help fund a project to save several species of fish. The pour produced a nice tan head that emulated a nice sweet aroma. The aroma was very fruity (apple and citrus fruit) with a slight hint of hops. In the glass the beer had a very light red tinge. The mouthfeel was very light, with a medium amount of carbonation. This beer had a very complex finish that had hints of citrus (grapefruit or lemon zest) and with a slightly roasted flavour as well. The fruity taste was very refreshing and makes this beer perfect for a variety of occasions. Try Recousse with a light snack, white fish or a creamy white pasta sauce.

Beer Fact: Wheat ales often have fruit or different spices (like coriander or cloves) added to the beer creating a very complex finish and a variety of flavours.

Best Feature: distinct aroma

Rescousse Red Wheat Ale is one of several beers from an outstanding brewery in Montreal.  We received this wheat ale in a standard 341 ml long neck brown bottle.  When poured the colour was a hazy golden yellow topped with a light head which receded quickly.  I found the nose to be sweet with hints of fruit and apple.  The mouthfeel was light fruity start and I noticed a touch of cloves and a hint of spiciness in the finish.  Overall I would recommend Rescousse as great dessert beer or even one to be enjoyed on its own with its unique and complex flavours.

Beer Fact: Project Rescousse is a non profit organization registered in compliance with the provincial Companies Act. The project has two important goals, first to raise funds for the rescue of species at risk and second, to raise consciousness over species endangerment. The craft beer Rescousse is the medium of choice to attain the project's goals.

Best Features: fruity taste, spicy aftertaste

This week's beer is Rescousse Red Wheat Beer from Quebec. This product is named after an endangered fish in Quebec and its royalties are donated to a local organization trying to protect the species. The beer has an extremely cloudy appearance and looks thick or heavy in the glass. The head retention was minimal but produced a lot of aroma. Rescousse starts with a sweet fruity taste, a full mouthfeel followed by a spicy aftertaste. This 5% beer is one to be savored not rushed. It would go well with a variety of meals but I would recommend it with some garlic prawns or ribs. I really enjoyed this beer and would definitely recommend it.

Beer Fact: For each bottle sold in LCBO stores, royalties will directly be paid by RJ Brewers and its representative (Premier Brands) to Wildlife Habitat Canada.
