Best Features: rich thick head, easy to drink
Kamloops Brewing (also know as KB) brews 3 different beers that are available through the BCLD. The bottle label is very attractive; gold and brown with a large "KB" insignia. KB Honey Brown Lager is another example of a lager that is darker in colour (honey brown). The pour produced a nice rich head with dense bubbles that lingered. The aroma was a nice mixture of sweet and hoppy bitterness. The carbonation level is definitely similar to a cream ale (mid-range) because it was smooth and creamy on the tongue. The finish was silky and lingered for nice amount of time. The subtle honey sweetness is only apparent for a short amount of time during the pleasant aftertaste. Overall, this Honey Brown Lager from Kamloops Brewing is a great beer. It is not overly sweet, nor does is it heavy on the tongue. It is easy to drink and versatile. Try pairing this beer with honey glazed chicken, a light salty snack (to heighten the honey sweetness), or something a little sweet dusted with brown sugar.
Beer Fact: Honey is added during several different stages during the brewing process to create the "honey" flavoured beers. Some honey flavoured beers have honey added during the boiling process, others add honey just before or during the fermentation process. When the honey is added will effect the overall sweetness and honey taste apparent in the beer. |

Best Feature: sweet honey aroma
Kamloops brewing Honey Brown Lager comes in a traditional 341 ml long neck brown bottle with a very enticing gold label. Once poured, this honey lager was a dark honey colour topped with a head of tight bubbles which disappeared rather quickly. I found the nose to be a nice sweet honey aroma with hints of malt. The mouthfeel was on the medium side with average carbonation. The flavour was sweet with a soft finish. The sweetness in this beer would work well with something spicy like a hot Indian dish such as a Vindaloo or hot Tandoori chicken. I really enjoyed this beer and would definitely pick it up for an afternoon delight.
Beer Fact: All of the KB beers have no preservatives or additives, nor are they sterilized or pasteurized. The relatively new Kamloops Brewing Company is the result of an ownership change & restructuring of the now extinct Bear Brewing Company as of two years ago.
