Best Features: a Caribbean Classic!
Imported from Jamaica, Red Stripe beer has been very successful in the United States and was introduced into Canada in 2000. Having Caribbean heritage, I understand the approach to beer from that area of the world; something light, something clean and something that you can drink for several days in a row! Red Stripe is easy to drink, but the aroma is musty and stale. This is the type of beer I would normally have no problems recommending, but I will hesitate until I get a chance to drink a Red Stripe that I know is fresh. I have had Red Stripe in the Caribbean and I remember it being much more pleasant in aroma and finish. That said, the packaging is unique, the flavour is bold but subtle and overall this beer was easy to drink. Match this beer with a spicy dish or take it to a party and put on you best accent "No Problem Mon!" |

Best Features: smooth, easy drinking
Red Stripe – Straight from Jamaica, Red Stripe Lager comes in the old school stubby brown bottles. When poured, the Red Stripe has a light golden colour with an average head the left quickly. The aroma was quite interesting, initially it smelt moldy but after having a few more whiffs I could pick up some of the hops. The mouthfeel was very light with average carbonation and the aftertaste was crisp and rather short. Overall, Red Stripe is a smooth beer that would go well with some hot Jamaican Patties from the Patty Shop here in Vancouver (I know shameless plug for Uncle Darryl).

Best Features: gotta be the "stubby" bottles!
WOW! This beer ain't for the faint of heart! Brewed in Kingston Jamaica, this yellow-golden brew has a really pungent, almost skunky aroma to it, with a mild bitter aftertaste. I like to drink this beer with a nice curry or some peas and rice. Importing anything from the Caribbean is a bit tricky and Red Stripe is no exception. Unfortunately this beer is hit and miss depending on the time of the year and the freshness of the beer. All in all, this is a decent beer. It's smell by no means, was anything like it's taste. This beer is bottled in the "stubbies", brings be back to my childhood! More stubbies please!
