Best Features: unique for an IPA, complex
The Lower Mainland boasts some of the most unique microbrew beers on the market, sampling the various beers is truly pleasure. Storm Brewing in Vancouver is one of the most unique breweries and creates some of the most unique flavoured beer on the market. Located on Commercial Drive (near East Hastings) this is truly a neighbourhood brewery. Founded in 1995 by owner and brewmaster James Walton, Storm Brewing should be considered a "boutique brewery" prized by connoisseurs.
All of the Storm Brewing beers are definitely a step away from the ordinary. Only available on tap at fine restaurants and pubs, Hurricane IPA pours with a very full head and has the colour of dark apple juice. The beer combines an intense hoppy and floral aroma with hints of citrus zest. The beer has a mid-level of carbonation and the flavour sticks on the tongue for a decent amount of time. The flavours linger and creates a very pleasant, but bitter finish. This beer offers a complexity that true beer drinkers will enjoy but also has a mild sweetness so it will not scare off your average beer drink although some people may find this beer too bitter.
To compliment Hurricane IPA try it with a complex meal that has some intense flavours to match this intense beer; mild curry, Cajun spices and blue cheese or strong cheddar. Hurricane I.P.A. is available directly from Storm Brewing in different size kegs - perfect for your next party.
Beer Fact: James Walton is a true character and his beer reflects this. Other offerings from Storm Brewing include Black Plague Stout (with a hint of black licorice) and Fruit Lambics - raspberry, blackberry and black cherry.

Best Features: inviting aroma, smooth aftertaste
Storm Brewing is located here in Vancouver and brew several different styles of beer. We tried the Hurricane I.P.A. which was a little different than a traditional I.P.A. in that it was unfiltered. In the glass, the beer was a translucent honey colour with a good compact head the remained for quite sometime. The fragrance I detected was definitely light hops chased with a note of sweet fruitiness. The mouthfeel was surprisingly pleasant with medium body and average carbonation. The hoppy finish was strong, crisp and lingered on the back of my tongue. This type of beer is best enjoyed with spicy food with lots of flavour profile including sausage, peppercorn and strong cheese.
Beer Fact: Hops will add flavour and aroma. Hops added during the early stages of the boil will add flavour (and bitterness) hops added near the end of the boil will add aroma (and citrus notes).
