Best Feature: good "shotgunability"
Lucky Lager is an economy brand beer from Labatt. Available in a variety of packages (6, 8 or 12 or 15 packs in cans), Lucky Lager is priced right for your next party. All big beer companies have economy brands, premium brands and super premium brands to ensure their market share at each level. Lucky Lager is cheap, but not the cheapest beer on the market. The packaging is simple and with a distinct red and gold label.
Lucky Lager is a light straw colour in the glass and it appears a little watery. The high carbonation creates light bubbles which quickly dissipate. The aroma is yeasty and sweet with light aromas of bread and light malts. The initial mouthfeel is light with a sweet flavour that disappears. Unfortunately Lucky Lager has a lingering syrupy flavour that sticks on the tongue for a long period of time. This is not typical of light lagers and is very unappealing. Some people might think that all beer styles leave a long lingering flavour but lagers are supposed to have less residual sugar due to longer periods of fermentation. It is obvious that Lucky Lager is a quick brewed beer with a short fermentation period and this is why the flavour sticks to the palate for a long period of time. Nevertheless, Lucky Lager does have good "shotgunability" and could be considered a good party beer mainly because of the price point.
To compliment Lucky Lager, try it with light salty foods; chips and salsa, fish and chips or pretzels. The best way to cleanse the palate after drinking Lucky Lager is with another beer!
Beer Fact: Lucky Lager was first introduced to beer drinkers in 1934 and is one of the best selling beers in "rural" communities throughout British Columbia.

Best Features: cheep, simple flavours
We tried the Original Lucky Lager out of a 341 ml long neck brown bottle with a rather large "X" on the white label. With an aggressive pour the head had nice tight bubbles which receded quickly to the edge of the glass. I found the nose to be sweet with hints of a yeasty apple cider aroma which matched its clear pale straw colour. The mouthfeel was light with an average level of carbonation. The dominant flavour was bready at first with a quick, crisp, sharp middle followed by a lingering mild hoppy finish. Lucky Lager is a great place to start your beer experience in that it is a very inoffensive beer with a simple flavour profile.
Pair Lucky Lager with light and salty snacks.
Beer Fact: Hops will add flavour and aroma. Hops added during the early stages of the boil will add flavour (and bitterness) hops added near the end of the boil will add aroma (and citrus notes).
