Best Feature: hug a tree, mid range mouthfeel
Cariboo Genuine Draft is an economy brand beer from Pacific Western Brewing in Prince George, B.C.
Every case of Cariboo Genuine Draft sold in 2009, PWB will make a donation to the Tree Canada Foundation to purchase and plant a softwood seedling - their goal is 100,000 trees! Another reason to drink this beer and feel even better about yourself.
Currently this beer is available in cans. The green and golden can has a symbol of B.C.'s wilderness on the front, a big caribou with full set of antlers, making the can very easy to recognize. In the glass, Cariboo Genuine Draft is a nice golden colour with a light beige head with loose frothy bubbles. The aroma is a little "bready" or "yeasty" with slight hints of floral hops. The bubbles continue to rise in the glass indicating a light bodied beer with higher levels of carbonation. The initial impression of the beer is that it has a light mouthfeel with light flavours. A further sip reveals a sweet beginning with a crisp finish with definite flora and hoppy notes. The flavours do linger for an extended period of time making the beer more of a mid-range mouthfeel with more of a flavour profile than light beers.
The flavours of Cariboo Genuine Draft will work with a variety of foods. Try it with light salty foods; chips and salsa, fish and chips or pretzels. In addition, Cariboo Genuine Draft will stand up to medium cheddar, cream cheese and medium heat chili or Mexican foods.
Beer Fact: Pacific Western Brewery is Western Canada's largest Canadian-owned independent brewery. PWB produces a wide range of products and is credited for producing BC's first canned beer, the first Canadian beer exported to mainland China and the first certified organic beer in Canada (source: www.pwbrewing.com)

Best Features: price point!
Cariboo Genuine Draft is a new offering from the great folks up at Pacific Western Brewing in Prince George. The 355 ml cans are very distinctive being green with yellow text and a large Caribou on the front. We poured this rather aggressively resulting in a thick tight white head which lingered for some time. The nose was mildly sweet complimenting the clear honey yellow colour. The mouthfeel was fairly light with average carbonation chased by a long mildly hoppy aftertaste. I would recommend this beer with some tangy and spicy BBQ as the mild hoppy aftertaste would contrast the tanginess of the BBQ.
Beer Fact: "Genuine draft" or "cold filtered" beer usually means that the beer is not pasteurized. Heat pasteurization reduces some of the flavours of beer but does kill off unwanted bacteria.
