Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale - Ireland

Best Features: full rich creamy head
Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale is imported from Ireland. I found the most appealing aspect of the beer was how it looked when it was poured into a glass. The head was full, the body was creamy and the browny red colour heightened my senses before I even took that first sip. The aroma is pleasant and subtle. The mouthfeel was rich and creamy but the aftertaste is a little on the strong side. I definitely prefer this beer on tap, rather than in a can (how we sampled it for the review). This beer would be a good first step for someone to move away from traditional North American lagers and try something with more body and flavour. This beer compliments a hearty stew or a pub-style hamburger & chips. |

Best Features: widget used to create a nice rich head
The Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale came in a can and when poured yielded a gorgeous tight head that lasted for quite some time. Some of this was due to the “widget” (a small device inside a can of beer, which causes agitation as the beer is poured, resulting in a nice creamy head) that is used with this product. The Irish Cream Ale has an inviting dark reddish brown colour with a scent of malt followed by a distinct woodiness. The mouthfeel was very light on the tongue followed by a long lingering woody aftertaste. I would recommend it with a hearty meal, but you may only be able to drink 2 or 3.

Best Features: appealing colour
The best part of the Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale was the amazing colour...a reddy-copper with a thick beige head. The beer definitely poured nicely into a glass and for me, this is one of the most appealing aspects of beer. This classic Irish Cream brew has an almost "wood like" taste to it. It had a strong bitter aftertaste that was a little overwhelming. This is definitely a beer for the ale connoisseur to give a try to. I would recommend matching this beer with stronger flavoured food like Thai food to create balance on the palette.
