Best Features: great bottle, complex but light
Howe Sound Brewing Company located in Squamish, B.C. is always one of the favourite booths at beer tasting events put on by Just Here For The Beer. With the upcoming winter Olympics in Whistler, Howe Sound Brewing Company is certainly going to be in the spotlight and a lot of tourist are going to stop by and pick a bottle or two of there fresh beer. For a "stay-cation" Howe Sound Brewpub is a great destination any time of the year.
Garibaldi Honey Pale Ale presents a blend of malts with
Lillooet honey. The malts include "pale" malts and wheat. This presents a unique combination of flavours that should arrive on your palate. The unique 1 Litre combination swing top and bottle cap is a great centerpiece for any table. The pour produces a beer that is light honey in colour with minimal head - although a good lining of brewers lace does develop at the side of the glass. The aroma is definitely inviting combining a hint of roasted sweetness and some citrus notes. The sweetness is due to the malts and honey and the citrus notes from the wheat and hops. On the tongue, a rush of flavours hits your senses. Similar to the bouquet, Garibaldi Honey Pale Ale in rhythm produces roasted malts, subtle sweetness and a mild citrus note that brings a tingle to the tongue. Amazingly light in body for such a complex beer, Garibaldi Honey Pale Ale is distinct and a stand alone product on the shelves of the liquor store. The mixture of flavours in the finish reminds the mouth how beer can hold it prisoner on its own.
Garibaldi Honey Pale Ale is a versatile beer. The blend of flavours and aromas in the beer are subtle so it is important not to overpower this beer with heavy flavoured foods. Very lightly salted and seasoned foods like delicate white fish or shellfish will work best. With cheese, lean towards light flavours like mozzarella, very mild cheddar and lightly smoked Gouda or Manchego.
Beer Fact: Howe Sound Brewery is a small brewery that brews in small batches. The brewery will often have 8 or more beers available at one time! |

Best Feature: roasted and citrus
Garibaldi Honey Pale Ale is a very unique beer available on the back shelf of most government liquor stores. This beer is distinctive because it is very rare to get a roasted sweetness combined with citrus. In the glass the beer is a nice warm brown colour. The head is a light beige with loose wispy bubbles. The aroma is light with floral hops and a light sweetness that almost goes undetected. The beer is quick on the tongue but the finish lingers. The hint of honey comes through in the finish, especially the buttery mouthfeel but it is also cleansed by the citrus. Try Garibaldi Honey Pale Ale with honey glazed ham or honey garlic chicken wings. Light white cheese is the style that is best suited for this type of beer.
Beer Fact: Howe Sound Brewing Company has a cool but simple website with a virtual brewery tour.
