Best Feature: Catchy name
This low carb lager was unfortunately quite a disappointment. When reviewing beers, we at (JustHereForTheBeer) take several factors into consideration including the flavour of low carb beers. Most everyone can tell a low carb beer apart from others, some are surprisingly adequate. This beer however was truly one of the worst I have tasted. The colour was the same as white grape juice, or pineapple flavoured jube-jubes. The aroma reminded me of the smell of empties @ the bottle depot. Big rock quotes "a beer that's still very much a beer". Whoever wrote that slogan could NOT have been honest with themselves, or in their right mind. Two reasons for my good rating (a 1 is a good rating for this beer): I didn't spit it out as soon as I sipped it & it has a cool name. |

Best Feature: Colin bought it!
Big Rock Brewing is located in Calgary and this version of a low carb beer has 2 grams of carbs and 3.8% alcohol. The colouring was an extremely pale light yellow, with a hoppy aroma that reminded me of stale beer. The carbonation was minimal and the head disappeared extremely quickly. On the tongue, the mouthfeel was extremely light and was absent of any beer taste. The finish is non-existent and the overall taste is was as if someone had watered down my beer. I am very disappointed with this beer when compared to other low carb offering on the market.

We decided to give the low-carb thing another go and we sampled Jack Rabbit the low-carb entry from Big Rock Brewing in Calgary. Ok, I will try to be pleasant when I describe this "beer". Jack Rabbit has low carbs and a lower alcohol percentage (3.8%) compared to regular beers. This "beer" reminds me of stale bottled water with colour added. The mouth feel is like tonic water and the aroma lacks any real beer-like qualities. Zero head retention, no body and a low alcohol content. This beer was a total disappointment and should be in the grocery isle beside the non-alcoholic beers (some of which have more beer qualities). If the flavour, the taste, and the aroma were not disappointing enough, this beer also cost the same as other premium lagers! Who are you trying to fool! I have one request for all of you Atkins people, leave beer alone, if you don't want the carbs, don't drink beer! |
