Best Feature: rich full head, lower carbonation
Highland Scottish Ale from Storm Brewing has a very distinct appearance. When poured into the glass, the beer is cloudy and has a nice full head. The aroma is subtle with hints of malt and sugar. The mouthfeel is very smooth with low-mid carbonation. This is definitely not a lager style beer. The full flavour is accented by a lingering aftertaste that is a little bitter, hoppy, but smooth. Try matching this beer with a full flavoured meal like curry or fish. Unfortunately this beer is only available at a few select locations in Vancouver and in kegs directly through the brewery.
Beer Fact: Beer from all over the world is flavoured with different herbs, spices and sweeteners. Hibiscus is just one example of a floral additive used in beer. |

Best Feature: freshness!
Tasted fresh from the brewery within an hour, the 5% alcohol Highland Scottish Ale has a cloudy orangy-amber colour to it & a distinct malty aroma. It has a slight bitterness to its aftertaste. This beer is definitely a conversation piece for the connoisseur. It would pair well with UK style pub fares. Unfortunately, all of Storm Brewing's tasty flavours are only available at select pubs & restaurants around the Vancouver area. Look out for them, they're worth trying.
Beer Fact: Having a larger party? Check storm out for their competitive prices on kegs.

Best Feature: gentle lingering aftertaste
The Highland Scottish Ale was very intriguing when I first saw it poured in the glass. It was an opaque with beautiful honey brown colour topped with a loose head with fairly large bubbles. The fragrance was very unique with what I can only describe as a hint of caramel sweetness. The mouthfeel was nice and light with average carbonation. I found the taste to be sweet tempered with a mild hoppy bitterness chased by an aftertaste that gently lingered on the tongue. Overall I liked this beer as the taste reminded me of a cream ale style beer. Storm Brewing has several unique beers available.
