Best Feature: great Canadian bitter!
Propeller Extra Special Bitter has a very nice pour and a very rich and inviting dark amber/copper appearance. The head retention is good and compliments this full bodied beer. The beer actually cascades in the glass as the beer settles - excellent! Hints of dark chocolate and a subtle fruity aroma make this beer very appealing. The mouthfeel is very smooth, a little bitter, followed by a quick finish. This beer definitely competes with some of the English imports in the market. This is a premium beer, so expect to pay a premium price, but this beer is well worth it. Try this beer with a full-flavoured meal like stew, roasted garlic chicken or spicy Thai food. This is a great beer to add to you next beer tasting event.
Beer Fact: Propeller, like other special bitter beer was created using the strong brewing traditions of the United Kingdom. |

Best Feature: gentle on the palate
Propeller Extra Special Bitter is a dark copper coloured English style Ale that has a burnt chocolate aroma. There are fruity notes & the taste seems to gently fade off in your palate. Propeller ESB is extremely smooth & very refreshing, which is due to softening of the water prior to the brewing process. A little pricey @ 12.30 / 6-pack from BC liquor stores, but definitely worth trying to change it up! This beer doesn't actually leave a "bitter" taste in your mouth as some may expect, quoting brewer John Allen: "Our most popular brew is not really a bitter beer, it's a better Bitter!"
Beer Fact: Bitter was originally a draught ale served very fresh from gravity fed or hand pump dispensing only, with no pressure, served only at cellar temperatures.

Best Feature: subtle bitter aftertaste
I was pleasantly surprised by Propeller Extra Special Bitter, I have traditionally not been a fan of darker beers. This beer was a delicious dark amber colour with a hint of copper and minimal head that disappeared rather quickly. The aroma was distinct and inviting sweet burnt malt. On the tongue, it was medium bodied with a hint of hoppy bitterness and finished smoothly. The aftertaste started strong but finished gently, which is what won me over; I would definitely recommend this beer for a relaxing afternoon. Try finding Propeller at your local liquor store or request it by name. Propeller Brewing also has one of the best microbrew websites around! We can't wait to taste the other Propeller products.
