Best Feature: dark honey amber colour
Palm is a Belgian brewed beer with a slightly higher alcohol content of 5.4%. When I poured this beer, the colouration was alluring dark honey-amber which caught me off guard as I was expecting a lighter colour. I found the head to be tight and it lasted a reasonable amount of time. The level of carbonation was average, and the nose was a nice gentle hoppiness with sweet malty undertones. The mouthfeel was light with a short bitter finish, while the aftertaste subtly lingered on my tongue. I liked this beer and recommend it with quite a wide variety of food pairings as the bitter finish disappears rather quickly and would not conflict with your meal. |

Best Features: nice packaging, malty bitterness
Imported by Stile Wines, Palm is a rare find; an amber ale that is imported into Canada. The bottle is a very nice green and golden label with a champagne looking bottle with tinfoil around the top. The beer is an appealing amber colour that produced a nice thick head. The mouthfeel is smooth, with a medium amount of carbonation. There is a definite malty bitterness associated with Palm. I was surprised at how long the aftertaste lingered, but is definitely not overpowering. The malty and roasted tastes in beer is one of my favourite styles for this time of year, perfect for sitting down in front a warm fire. Try Palm with something a little stronger tasting or to balance a sweet dish like sweet and sour pork or a honey garlic glaze.
Beer Fact: The Palm website is only in Dutch or French, I can read French and found the website a little basic compared to other beer websites. |

Best Feature: easy drinking
Palm is Belgian brewed 5.4% amber-copper coloured ale had a very mild aroma. It poured clear with typical head retention. Palm had a slight bitterness through the finish, and carried a slight lingering aftertaste. This beer is not as complex as many other Belgian beers on the market, but is a little different than North American products. It is very easy to drink and I would recommend pairing Palm with a pot roast or turkey. Palm is available at the BC government liquor stores for $2.75 a bottle - a fair price for a specialty beer.
Beer Fact: Palm has been family brewed since 1747.
Just so you know: if your beer of choice is not at your specific neighbourhood government liquor store, all you have to do is ask for them to bring it in for you.
