It was really nice to sit down with the beer experts to sample some unique products. I enjoyed La Binchoise Biere des Ours. The packaging was unique and the aroma was light and hoppy. The beer is golden and a little cloudy in the glass. The taste is light with a clean and smooth finish. I would recommend this beer with pasta or chicken. Biere des Ours is a great tasting beer with a high alcohol content, one of the best high alcohol beers I have ever tasted. |

Best Feature: sweet and smooth flavoured beer
Biere des Ours from Brasserie La Binchoise is an ale with a shot of honey for flavoring. This ale had nice rather tight head which gradually gave way to larger bubbles that lingered for some time. The colour is a light golden honey that is translucent with an average amount of carbonation. The nose is distinctly hoppy with strong undertones of sweetness. I found the mouthfeel a bit chewy and leans towards medium body, the finish is refreshing with a very subtle aftertaste. A good beer for those who like something on the sweet side, that said, I could probably sip a few of these in an afternoon. |

Best Features: special and rich
Brasserie La Binchoise is a world renown brewery for specialty beer. Many of the beers have higher alcohol percentages, Biere des Ours at 8.4% was no exception. This beer comes in a unique stubby-like bottle that has a picture of a bear on it. The pour immediately releases a sweet aroma. Biere des Ours is unfilted and this creates a cloudy, honey like appearance in the glass. The first sip produces a smooth coating on your tongue and the lingering subtle taste and feel of honey. The beer is full and rich so it is definitely a product one should sip not gulp. A perfect beer for sipping with dinner or with dessert. Try this beer with your turkey dinner or as an after-dinner nightcap in front of the fire.
Beer Fact: All La Binchoise beers are high fermented, non filtered, and then refermented in the bottle. The honey in Biere des Ours is added before the fermentation process to add smoothness and increase the alcohol percentage.

Best Features: Intriguing colour and taste, and of course, the "stubbies" style bottle
Les Binchoise is Belgian brewed 8.4% honey strong ale presented in my favourite good old "stubby" bottles. It has an alluring peachy-gold cloudy colour with a stronger sweet aroma. The cloudiness is present due to the tiny honey particles. Biere des Ours has a medium to heavier bodied mouthfeel, tasting a slightly higher alcohol content through the finish. This beer is available at selected private 7 government liquor stores. Selling for $2.95 per bottle (at the government stores), this is a definite pick to bring for a beer tasting party. Try pairing this complex beer with a stronger tasting cheese, or a smoked fish (like salmon).
Beer Fact: During the holiday season, many people bring a bottle of wine to hosts while visiting. The difference between a lower end wine to higher end can be in the $100's. Why not get into the tradition of bringing higher end beers? The cost for a few larger fancy bottles, or half a dozen regular sized bottles of a premium import or micro product never goes above $20. Impress your hosts and Happy Holidays!
