Best Features: rich head, easy to drink
Démon is available in 500 ml bottles and is a great bargain for a unique import. This is a different type of import; not the traditional lager or dark ale. Demon is a copper or amber colour beer. This results in a beer that is fairly light in body, but has a sweeter and more complex flavour than bitter hoppy pilsners or lagers. The malt aroma is a little sweet and nicely mingled with roasted and caramel overtones. The beer is light on the tongue and has a short finish which makes Demon very easy to drink. The brewers lace lingers on the glass for a long period of time which usually indicates more body. A great beer to share with a friend while enjoying a pizza or some pasta, Demon was one of the favourite beers at the 2006 Wine & Beer Festival.
Beer Fact: This is one of the first beers we tasted in the our original beer tasting and education class at UBC. The appreciation for this style has definitely developed over the years of tasting beer. |

Best Feature: excellent price
Démon is a 5.2% amber-copper lager from the Czech Republic brewed in the Vienna Style. The head produced was decent, with higher carbonation, and it seemed to have a caramel or similar aroma. This medium bodied beer definitely started sweet, carried through with a pleasant maltiness, then finished crisp with hops. The finish seemed much like a German style Pilsner. Marketed as "The Brewmaster's Beer", you can purchase Demon at the government liquor stores at a steal for only $2.23 per 500ml tall bottle. If you're thinking of hosting a beer tasting night with friends, this would make a good addition to the list. Demon can also be a refreshing patio beer.
Beer Fact: A traditional Vienna lager is brewed using a three process and this creates a beer with subtle hop flavour, crispness, and some residual sweetness .

Best Feature: sweet honey aroma
Démon Lager is a product of the Czech Republic that is offered in a 500 ml tall brown bottle. This clear amber lager was topped with a white, full, thick head. The nose was mildly malty with subtle tones of caramel. I found the mouthfeel to be light to medium with about average carbonation levels. The flavour was mostly malt with a hoppy finish but smooth overall. Démon is a nice smooth beer that would go well with many meals.
Beer Fact: The brewery in Vysoky Chlumec was established in 1466 and the Lobkowicz family purchased it in 1474. The Lobkowicz family has a long brewing tradition. It was interrupted only in 1939 when the brewery was confiscated by Nazis and the Lobkowicz family was forced to exile to Great Britain.
